Let’s face it, practically all site owners have a yearning to know how to rank high in Google and the supplementary search portals. To do it you’ll either have to learn SEO (search engine optimization) or bring in a geek to do it for you.

Search engine optimization sounds like a scary thing to get the hang of and while the mole hole does run very deep with what seems like boundless complexities, it’s easier than you might think to get a hang of the basics.

Actually the basics are all you need to get your website rising up into the upper echelons of the SERPS (search engine results pages) with all the benfits that brings.

Any high ranking webmaster will tell you that a top position on Google can absolutely flood your web pages with users all desperate to learn what you can offer them. To make this reality we all need to learn how to rank high in Google.

Once you’re at the top of the pile in Google the other search engines more often than not follow suit, which is a nice bonus.

The technicalities are beyond the scope of this write up but at its most uncomplicated it reduces down to two major factors.

1. On page factors.

2. Off page factors.

While #1 is necessary it is the off page jobs you do which will truly raise your rankings. Off page optimization actually boils down to procuring links from other web sites.

The engines regard a link from one page to another as a vote. The more links which flow to a page the more applicable that page is assumed to be and the ranking rises. Of course that is a very simplified analysis but it’s the core of ranking.

There are all kinds of different varieties of link. Some deliver the goods much better than others for ranking purposes. The greatest links you can get your hands on are in-context plain text links which contain applicable anchor text. Sound difficult? It doesn’t have to be.

I’ve run out of room in this article but if you’re looking for additional details I’ll be happy to provide you with an evaluation of your web site for a small fee. I’ll recommend keywords you should be targeting and how to build in-context inbound text links centered on those keywords.
