Learning about building muscle without weights is a huge topic of interest these days. It makes sense, because if you can master this there isn’t really need for a gym. Aside from the cost-savings, many experts believe that your body has a lot more functionality if it is built without the use of weights. Whereas calisthenics and body weight exercises are growing in popularity.

Building Muscle Without Weights Is Possible

There are simply too many examples of people who build amazing physiques without weights. There are a lot of guys that workout simply using playground equipment – you can see them on YouTube. It might sound like a strange method, but some of these guys are in better shape than some of the guys you’ll see at the gym.

A lot of people think that basic exercises such as push ups or chin ups are just used by school kids and as punishment during military training. Some even believe that we learn these basic exercises in Physical Education as kids just to prepare our bodies to weight lifting exercises in the future. There are even people believe that people who are serious about muscle building go hand in hand with weight lifting. It is important to know that if you only use weights to build muscle, you aren’t looking at the whole picture.

Moving Your Body Against Gravity Is More Applicable Out in the Real World

Being able to push or pull your body up off of the ground is more important to true physical fitness than being able to lift an object up off the ground in most cases. The military focus on body weight exercises, not weight lifting, for a good reason. The ability to climb as well as hitting the ground then explode back up can be the difference between life or death. Sure it is helpful being strong and being able to lift heavy weights, but this won’t come in as much handy as being able to easily lift your own body weight in different situations. The following will show you how building muscle without weights is possible.

Tip #1 – If you want to get strong, don’t just do a bunch of high rep work.

If you can easily do 50 push ups, then switch to close grip push ups. When you find these simple, do push ups on one arm. You will notice that your arms, shoulders and chest will be much more dense and defined by the time you can do 10 or 15 one arm push ups.

Tip #2 – If you want to do one limb movements, you need to work your way up to them.

It is a good idea to work slowly up to doing 30-50 reps of chin ups and push ups in order to achieve some really intense upper body work. Once you have reached the 30-50 point, you can narrow your grip. Once that becomes easy, use one-arm at a time. For legs, you will want to do shallow one-leg “pistol squats” and work your way to deeper depths. If you work out in this manner you will be walking proof that building muscle without weights is possible and effective.
