Ant Problems in Bramhall, Handforth and Stockport.
Ants in the house are the scourge of many houses in summertime leaving many people to dread the summer and the annual flying ants invasion which they expect the summer will bring
Only the unfortunates who have suffered it will know the true nature of flying ants in their homes.
Having an infestation of plain old wingless ants is bad enough but when they go through their yearly mating phase the position can become intolerable.
Ants often form colonies in the sub-floor areas and in the wall cavities of our homes and these colonies will live for many years to come if left untreated becoming progressively more persistent as the years go on.
Our dwellings are warm and dry and provide the perfect places for a growing ant colony; even solid asphalt floor is not a deterent to an ant.
Our house heating systems keeps their metabolism even in the colder months when they are not active outdoors and my earliest ant treatment was on my birthday, in January!
Ants like a sandy soil and there are plenty areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which tend to provide more ant callouts than others, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as hot ant locations.
Unfortunately it is during their mating time that they are most annoying. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this usually is pretty regularly around the middle of July.
Ants mate on the wing and sometime around mid-summer the colony produces flying immature Queens and flying males which in nature would fly off and mate in the air. Many thousands of these winged ants are produced per colony and nests tend to synchronise their production so that they mate with ants from other nearby.
Usually this process starts after a period of days of hot, dry weather and will typically continue for about a week or so although smaller releases will carry on throughout most of the summer.
Unfortunately when the colony is under the floor of the house the results can be devastating, literally thousands of winged ants are produced into the lower rooms, aiming for windows as they make for the light.
This can be unbelievably distressing for some people leading to severe emotional distress to the degree that people learn to fear the summertime and have actually left their homes to escape the plague of ants which they know will inevitably appear each summer.
The poor summers of the last three years have meant that ant jobs were reduced on previous years but ants appear to have a way of catching up and 2010 looks set to be a particularly troublesome year.
Most people who have this problem attempt for DIY solutions with potions from hardware shops etc but mostly these efforts do not work as they are not getting to the heart of the infestation which is the nest itself, hidden away safely in the cavity wall or sub-floor area.
Luckily for many people help.
At Harrier Pest Prevention (subject to site survey) we are able to cure this problem and give an extendable 3 year guarantee.
The process which is done mostly from the outside of the dwelling, is perfectly safe for animals and children and leaves no smell, involves drilling little holes into the cavity walls of the house, not unlike a damp-course injection and blowing an insecticidal powder into the cavity wall under pressure.
This forms an uncrossable barrier through which the ants cannot go and together with a precautionary internal spray treatment (if deemed necessary) will slowly bring the problem to its end.
The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter stay open so it is simply a matter of topping up the cavities every three years to extend the life of the guarantee in three year periods.
This procedure is best carried out in the early spring however it can be done at any time of year.
As a very limited time offer in our quiet period we are offering 25 percent off the usual price until May 30 2010. Whilst we usually cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are able to travel further afield but this will be reflected in the cost.
