A Short Review of Navigon 5100 Car GPS Unit
With a bright chrome finish and compact dimensions, the Navigon 5100 is a nice-looking and easy to carry around. The 5100 has a 3.5-inch wide touchscreen that is responsive and displays sharp maps and brilliant colors. The Navigon unit comes packaged with an SD card preloaded with maps, a vehicle mount, a auto charger, a USB cable, a soft carrying pouch, and manual.
The unit also comes with Zagat information on top markets, to bolster the regular address/phone information that usually comes with POI’s. The Navigon 5100 also comes with TMC traffic standard, and includes a lifetime subscription. The lifetime TMC subscription adds additional value to the unit.
The Navigon 5100 is equipped with a SiRFstarIII GPS chip and maps of the United States and Canada. You can key in a place by specific address, point of interest, recent destination, user-defined home, and so forth. Other standard navigation features contain automatic route recalculation, multistop trips, simulated demos, speed alerts, and text and voice guided turn-by-turn directions. It also has the text-to-speech functionality for specific street names.
You can view the maps in 2D or 3D mode, and with day or night colors.The map screen shows you the name of the street you are driving on, the distance to the next turn, estimated time of arrival, remaining distance, a compass, signal strength, and many more. The Navigon 5100 has a comprehensive POI database that includes branded icons for major corporations. GPS Reviews also says that this GPS has an integrated traffic receiver so you get subscription-free traffic updates. To make the smoothest ride possible, there is also a lane assistant function that will recommend you the best lane for your route.
If you are looking for a 4.3″ widescreen version there is the Navigon 7100 that has almost the same features run by a rechargeable lithium ion battery will operate the unit for up to four and a half hours.
